This terrific stretch of hot, sunny weather we’re having makes it hard to believe that fall has actually arrived. It’s true though! In just two weeks, we Canadians will be stuffing our birds, and getting ready to sit down to stuff our bellies with the annual Thanksgiving feast.
This week, the hooligans and I have been busy crafting up some simple turkey crafts. I’ll share them all with you in the coming days, but today we’re starting these easy and rather adorable wine cork turkey decorations.
Remember our super-cute wine cork owls? They were the inspiration for the turkeys we’re making today.
Let’s grab our supplies and get started.
To make our wine cork turkeys, you’ll need:

- wine corks
- cupcake liners
- red tissue paper
- orange or yellow construction paper (or craft foam)
- googly eyes
- glue
Any cupcake liners will do for this craft but the colourful patterned liners are great for your turkey’s tail feathers. I found a few different sizes at the dollar store. For our craft today, I used the regular and mini sized liners. One set was foil lined, and one set was paper.
My helper quite enjoyed examining the cupcake liners. She separated them for me, and then had fun sorting and stacking them into piles.
To make your turkeys:
Start by folding your cupcake liners in half or just more than half so the top of the liner will extend above the top of the cork when you glue them together.
Glue your liner onto a cork, lining up the bottoms of both.
Now glue on the googly eyes and a small triangle of your construction paper or craft foam.
Crumple up two small pieces of red tissue paper for the turkey’s comb and wattle.
Glue one piece to the top of his head, and the other just under his beak.
That’s all there is to it!
Now go and find a place to display your adorable turkeys.
Happy Thanksgiving, everyone!
