Sensory Play
Below, you'll find my daycare children's favourite sensory activities.
What is Sensory Play?
Sensory Play plays an important role in early childhood development, and refers to activities that engage a child's sense of smell, touch, sight, hearing and taste.
Our ability to learn is heightened when our senses are engaged.
Activities that stimulate multiple senses increase a child's ability to process information and make meaningful and memorable connections with the world around them.
Incorporating natural items and materials with interesting textures and colours into the crafts and activities you do with your child is easy and inexpensive. Ice, shaving cream, mud, dried rice and pasta are all examples of materials and substances that provide joyful opportunities to explore, observe, experience and learn through play.
In the posts and pages below, you'll find easy, inexpensive sensory bins as well as a dozens of other creative sensory play ideas.
