A snowman ornament made from a sliced up wine cork is a great Christmas craft when you’re short on time and supplies. All you need is 10 minutes, a cork, a button, some ribbon and a glue gun. Hang your snowman on your Christmas tree, or around the neck of a bottle of wine that you’re giving as a gift. Note: you’ll get two snowman ornaments out of one cork.

Yay! Another wine cork craft to add to our collection of cork crafts! Who doesn’t love an excuse to open a bottle of wine.
A couple of years ago we made these painted wine cork snowman ornaments, but they were a little more work. The snowmen we’re making today require nothing more than a cork, a button, some ribbon and glue.
What kind of button works best for the hat?
A shank button works best for this snowman’s hat. It’s different than a common flat button. A shank button has a small protrusion on the back with one hole through it. This protrusion makes the button look like a little snowman’s hat when you turn it upside down. You’ll glue it to the snowman with the protrusion sticking up, and then it’s easy to slide a thread through the hole for hanging.
If you’re using a flat button for your snowman’s hat, you can pair it with a pony bead. Thread the pony bead with your hanging thread and then glue that to the flat button to make it look like a hat. Or you can just use a flat button by itself. Just make sure you thread it with your hanging thread before gluing it to your snowman’s head. If you don’t, you won’t be able to get your thread through the holes when it’s glued down.
Hang on your tree or give with a bottle of wine
You can hang these snowmen on the Christmas tree, but when I’m making a wine cork ornament, I like to make a few extras to give when I’m gifting a bottle of wine to someone. I just pop the ornament over the neck of the bottle and it’s a cute little add-on to the gift.

With a hot glue gun, glue 3 cork slices together.
- Attach hat
Attach your button hat to the top of your snowman’s head with a dab of hot glue.
Note: If you’re using a flat button or a flat button/pony bead, be sure to thread your button/bead before gluing it in place. - Add a scarf
Tie a small length of ribbon around your snowman’s neck
- Add hanger
Thread the button with your metallic thread and secure the ends with a knot.
- Repeat with the remaining 3 cork disks.
Now you can hang one of your snowmen on your Christmas tree, and give the other to a friend with a bottle of their favourite wine.
