These easy BREAD MACHINE DINNER ROLLS are soft, fluffy and so delicious, you’ll never buy store-bought buns again.
Think homemade dinner rolls are out of the question because they’re too difficult to make? They’re not when you use your bread machine to make the dough. This is one of my favourite bread machine recipes!
Use your bread machine to make your dough, and you’ll be serving homemade rolls instead of store-bought every chance you get.
I’ve owned my bread machine for over a decade. (That’s my Amazon affiliate link. I may earn a small fee from purchases made through that link).
For years I only made honey-oat bread in my bread machine. It’s amazing, and my whole family loves it. I made it so often, I didn’t bother to experiment with any other recipes.
The Dough Setting is a game-changer!
Then, a few years ago, I decided to try out the dough setting on my bread maker, and make some homemade dinner rolls.
Oh My Land. The dough setting was a game-changer.
Now I make pizza dough, Homemade Cinnamon Buns, and of course, these incredible bread machine dinner rolls.
They’re so good that they’re the only rolls I serve to company anymore or for our Christmas and Thanksgiving dinners, and I often take them along (along with some homemade butter) when we’re invited to friends’ for dinner.
These dinner rolls are really easy to make, but they do require you to be around the house for a few hours because of the rising and resting times.
That doesn’t bother me because I just plan to make them when I’m going to be home for a few hours. Toss the ingredients in the bread maker after lunch, and by the time dinner rolls around, we have soft, fluffy rolls, piping hot from the oven.
Don’t be intimidated by the whole bun-making process. Your bread-machine is going to do all the hard work.
I promise!
Bread Machine Dinner Rolls Recipe
Ingredients:
- 1 c. warm water
- 2 tbsp margarine (I’ve used butter, and that’s fine too!)
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 egg beaten
- 1/4 c. sugar
- 3 c. all-purpose flour
- 3 tsp quick rise yeast (also known as instant yeast)
- melted butter for brushing buns with
How to Make Dinner Rolls with a Bread Machine
Add all of the ingredients to your bread machine in the above order, and choose dough setting.
When done, (my dough setting is 1.5 hours), transfer dough to a lightly floured counter-top and shape it into a ball.
Cut the ball of dough in half, and then cut those pieces in half, continuing to halve the dough until you have 16 pieces of dough. Sprinkle more flour on your counter if your dough starts to stick.
Shape your pieces into round buns, and place them in a sprayed 9 x 13 baking dish. You can use a couple of dishes if they don’t all fit in one. Leave a bit of room (like maybe an inch) between the buns.
Brush buns with melted butter, (get this silicon basting brush here on Amazon. (As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases)
Cover the baking dish with Plastic Wrap and set it in a warm spot (about 80 degrees Farenheit) until the dough has doubled in size – about 40 mins.
I usually warm my oven to about 200ºF and then turn my oven off. I place the dish into the oven and leave it in there with the door open a crack.
When your rolls have doubled in size, remove the plastic wrap, and bake 12-15 minutes at 375ºF degrees.
Can Dinner Roll Dough Be Made Ahead?
Yes! You can either make your dough a day ahead and refrigerate your rolls overnight or you can freeze them if you’re making the dough days or weeks in advance.
Refrigerating Dinner Roll Dough Overnight:
If you don’t want to bake the rolls right away, don’t let them rise in a warm place. Instead, place the covered baking dish in the fridge to do a slow rise overnight.
An hour or two before baking, remove them from the fridge so they finish rising, and then bake as directed above.
Freezing Your Dough:
Bread dough can be frozen for up to 30 days in advance. If you’re freezing your rolls, don’t baste them with the butter. Just shape them, place them in the baking dish and cover them with plastic wrap. Place them into the freezer for a few hours and then transfer them to a zip lock bag and keep frozen until you’re ready to use them.
To bake, place them in the baking dish and cover with a tea towel for 4 or 5 to let them thaw and rise. Baste them with the butter and bake as instructed above.
Oh MY! Look at those rolls!
That’s a little bit of heaven right here, folks!
If you want to make your homemade dinner rolls even MORE divine, make some of this homemade butter to slather on them.
Yum!!!

Wow, those look good! We’ll have to give them a try! Thanks for sharing.
happyhooligans
Ohhhh, they’re sooooo good! Let me know if you try them!
Ken
Unbelievably good and super-simple. Best roll recipe we’ve ever tried
kim
Well i just found your recipe got everything in the pan go to get my yeast and all i have left is active dry. So going to try using it. Fingers crossed
Donna
This might be a silly question BUT here goes…..Do you let the dough rise in the bread maker for the first rise and then take it out or do you take the dough out of the bread maker before it rises?
Jackie Currie
Yes, it does the first rise in the bread machine. If you use the dough setting, it will just beep when it’s gone through kneading and rising stages. Then you remove it, and follow the directions in my post, to shape the rolls, 2nd rise and bake.
mike
hi what kind of flour do you use .. is is strong flour ? self raising flour ? or just plain flour ? thanks
happyhooligans
Hi, Mike. I’ve just edited the post to say that it’s all-purpose flour. Thanks for pointing out that I hadn’t mentioned the specific type of flour.
Linee
Hi, can i use bread flour instead?
happyhooligans
Yes! I think most bread machine manufacturers actually recommend that you use bread flour. I use All Purpose for all my bread machine recipes, but I believe bread flour will yield the best results.
Valarie
These are my go to rolls I have made 4 times recently and they came out perfect every time! Everyone who has tasted them LOVES them and woofs them down! Glad the recipe if for 16 rolls they’re gone instantly!! No point buying grocery store rolls these are so easy to make. Thanks for sharing!
Jackie Currie
I’m so glad to hear your family loves them as much as we do, Valarie! Thanks for taking the time to let me know they’re such a hit at your house!
Leoma Cave
Do I have to go out & buy bread flour for most bread machine recipes, or can I use all purpose flour which I have ??
Jackie Currie
I always use all purpose flour for my bread machine recipes, Leoma.
Stacie
Can I simply add ¾ to 1 cup shredded sharp cheddar to my dough mix, with the dry ingredients?
I’m searching for a bread machine cheddar yeast roll recipe similar to the one I used (and lost) years ago.
Your advice would be greatly appreciated!
Jackie Currie
Sorry, Stacie, I can’t say for sure whether that would work or not. I’ve only ever made the buns according to the recipe I’ve shared.
Kim
I just made these & they turned out wonderfully 🙂 Thank you for sharing your recipe.
happyhooligans
Hooray! So glad you tried them, Kim! Aren’t they totally delish?
Cindy
Omg these are incredible! I made them tonight. I’m going to use this recipe again but only cut into 4ths to make hamburger buns next! Trust me they are amazing.
Mandi Van Eeden
My first try and I was fab
Jackie Currie
Yay! So glad you loved them, Mandi! I hope you make them often!
Kathleen
Thank you!! They were amazing. The kids LOVED them! And easy to make!
happyhooligans
Oh, I’m so glad you tried them, Kathleen! Mmmmm. Aren’t they just the best?
Manuela
Hi there just made the rolls but the dough was to wet and sticky do you know what I did wrong? Kind regards Manny
Jackie Currie
I’m guessing too much water or not enough flour, Manuela. I always look inside the machine before the kneading stage ends, and if it isn’t forming a smooth ball or if it’s sloshing around, I add a little more flour, 1 tbsp at a time. If it’s clunking around and looking dry, I add water, 1 tbsp at a time.
Sharon
These rolls turned out wonderful!! Will be making for Thanksgiving!! Could you bake them in a muffin pan?
happyhooligans
I’ve only ever used the glass pan, Sharon, so I can’t say for sure.
Janice
To answer several comments above, I have used muffin tins to let these rise and they come up as beautiful high top buns. If that is your desired end us, do it! This recipe really is so flexible. For the person asking about adding cheese, I would suggest adding it by selecting the mix-in option if your machine has one. Now I don’t suggest adding the cheese into the small dispenser, but watching the machine for “when” that time to add comes along, then quickly open lid and add in.
Kendra
Added cheddar cheese and subbed the salt for garlic salt! Yum!
Jackie Currie
Oh Yum for sure! What a great way to take them up a notch!
Kathy
Okay. I’ve never tried this before, but here I go…. 🙂
Thanks for sharing the recipe.
happyhooligans
Good luck, Kelly! Tell me how they turn out!
brisyvonne (Yvonne)
They look very yummy indeed. I will have to borrow the bread maker from my brother again. lol
Jackie I hope you and your family have a safe, happy and special Christmas and all the best for the new year. Starting to really warm up in Australia, I have a friend visiting Canada and it looks absolutely magical with all the snow. She even posted a video of them all snowing, and snow boarding. It certainly made me feel cool for a minute.
happyhooligans
Thank you Yvonne! I hope you have a wonderful Christmas with your family too! We are encased in a world of ice right now. We have snow on the ground, but it’s been raining for over 24 hours, and the temps are hovering just below zero, so our world is a skating rink right now. It’s crazy. You could literally skate on our driveway. So awful for anyone who still has to shop or travel for Xmas. It’s supposed to last for another day too. Hopefully then it will let up. I still have one more Walmart trip to make. I’ll be ok if I don’t get there – the boys just won’t get any body wash or undies in the stocking this year. lol Thank GOODNESS all the rest of the shopping is done!
Kate
Giving these a try tonight to have with our beef roast and roasted veggies… will let you know how they turn out! Super excited !
Jackie Currie
I hope you loved them, Kate!
Crystal McClean
Thanks for sharing your recipe. I’ve not yet tried our bread maker with anything other than white and brown bread as it was passed down to us and didn’t come with directions. My son wants me to bake overnight buns for Christmas morning…the last time I made them (2 Christmases ago) they puffed up and then fell flat. They tasted ok but definitely weren’t sharable outside of our family. I have your recipe bookemarked as well as the tab open on my tablet in case of another disaster this year…if we don’t have buns for breakfast I’ll make these for later in the day or Boxing Day so we can share with in-laws.
Merry Christmas!!
Kathleen
These are so easy and yummy, why trying something else. Made them a couple of times already and they are always a success! My boys 12 and 9 made these the last time, all by themselves!
happyhooligans
Yay! So glad you like them! That’s great that the boys made them on their own! Proof that the recipe really is easy! Can’t wait to have them with our Xmas feast!
Kathy
Hello!
Okay. I’ve made these rolls twice now, and I cannot get a big fluffy rise. They turn out more like dense bisquits. Any idea what I am doing wrong????
Kathy
happyhooligans
I’m not sure, Kathy. I’ve had so many people say they’ve made them successfully. Are you starting with warm water? Your water should always be about 110 degrees in order to activate the yeast when you’re making bread. Have you made other bread/buns with success?
Kathy
I can make sure the water is 110. I can’t remember now if I used warm water or not. I usually do. I have made white bread and pizza dough with success. The rolls tasted wonderful, but they were only and inch high — both times.
I will definitely keep trying!
Thank you!
happyhooligans
Maybe that’s it then. The only time I’ve had buns/bread flop for me is when I’ve forgotten and started with cold water.
Jane
If your rolls turn out bad, it might be because you use warm water and your bread machine has a preheat stage. mine does and I use cold tap water.
Julie P
I am on my third batch since the weekend! These are the best I have ever made!
happyhooligans
Haha! I love it, Julie! So glad you’re enjoying them!
Ruth
This are the best bread machine rolls I have tried. Today I am making the dough into hamburger buns.
Danielle
I’ve been using this recipe for so many different things. First for dinner rolls, then hamburger buns and brat buns. This recipe turns out every time. Only change I had to make was using cocunut oil in place of margarine due to allergies.
Kristy
Best buns I have ever ever made!!!!! So light fluffy and yummy!!!!!!! Cant wait to try the cinnamon recipes!!!
Nadine
Even if the water is warm, if the egg is right out the the fridge it could be bring the water temp down to low
happyhooligans
I suppose it could be an issue if you were making your dough by hand, but the machine heats the ingredients during the mixing and kneading process. This is why you can use a timer setting and put your ingredients in hours ahead of time – the machine will bring everything to the correct temperature in the first few minutes of mixing. Good point though for those looking to make their dough by hand!
Andrea
OH MY GOODNESS! Just made these today and holy moly THESE were EXCELLENT!!!!!!!!! These will now replace the ones I usually make for dinners. Excellent recipe! Thank you so much for this!
Barbara
best dinner rolls in the world, and with the fresh butter, just to die for. But I do have a question, do you have other bread machine recipes .
happyhooligans
Hi Barbara, I’m afraid that I don’t have another breach machine recipes on my blog. Sorry! I”ll have to work on that!
Barbara
With us living abroad for the past 9 years, these hit home. Thank you again
April
Can we double the recipe?
Jackie Currie
I’m not sure how big your bread machine is, April, but mine definitely isn’t large enough to accommodate this recipe doubled.
Carmen
Made these for Thanksgiving and the family loved them. Thank you for a great recipe. Yummy!
Christina
These are amazing! So easy and they are so fluffy and soft I’m wondering if I can make bread out of this dough and if so any changes?
Kate
These are my new favorite and I have tried a lot of different recipes! Thank you so much!!!
Gail
I made these rolls and they couldn’t have been easier. The photo directions were excellent. As well as tasting light and delicious, they looked amazing. I don’t usually take pictures of food, but I made an exception in this case!
Sharon
I made these today and they turned out great…even looked like the picture! Lol. This recipe is now my “go to” bun recipe. Thanks!
kaitlyn
I did these ones they were awesome and all gone by that night I did it yesterday and for some reason forgot the yeast lol so I am doing again today thanks so much for sharing so easy to make and so tasty I did use a bit less sugar this time because they were a little sweet !
Andrea
These are by far the best gosh darn dinner rolls on the planet. They are so good I nearly cried the first time I ate them. They are not only versatile and easy, but highly requested. I’ve just gotten smart though- I always have a batch in the freezer to pull out and thaw, rise and bake. I share them with everyone.
Plus.. in a pinch you CAN mix these by hand… but I much prefer to let my machine do that. 😀 Thank you so much for sharing such a fabulous recipe.
happyhooligans
Haha! I’m glad you loved them so much, Andrea. Tears of joy. Yes!!
Amanda
Thanks for these wonderful recipe. Just like you, I’m a bread machine fan too. And yes I use it to make pizza dough and buns, English muffins too!
Catherine
I made these buns and they are the yummiest, softest, easiest to make buns!!! This will be my go to recipe for buns!!!

monika
hiii
i am vegetarian so pls tell me that can i make this recipe without egg
happyhooligans
I’m not a vegetarian so I can’t tell you, Monika! So sorry!
Karen Brink
These are the best! So easy and amazingly delicious!! My husband raved on these.. Question for you: a friend of mine was wondering about making these without a bread machine; any suggestions are welcome! Thanks!
happyhooligans
I imagine, if she’s familiar with making bread, it would just be the typical knead/rise/punch-down process that’s common with most homemade breads, Karen. I’m not certain though, as I’ve only ever made these with my bread machine. I’m glad you loved them!
Fran
I made these this morning inw the bread machine and they turned out great. Nice and plump and soft. I added raisins when the beeper went and it worked. I especially like it that they are soft, this is a keeper, thanks
Trudy
Just trying these today! The dough rose beautifully, but it was so sticky! I had to add a bunch of flour after it came out of the bread maker. Anyone else have this problem?
Mel
Yes!
Currently on bench in ball stage I hope they still work.
happyhooligans
How did they turn out, Mel?

In my breadmachine at the moment 🙂 Thank you for sharing your recipe – the last time i tried to make a cloverleaf bun and I somehow missed half the flour as it called for white and whole wheat (oops) . These ones look great 🙂

This is a great blog. I love eating and making bread myself. I have been looking for different bread recipes like this one. Thanks for sharing . I’m so excited to try this. Certainly it will be great. I love using my bread machine. After try this one , I will try your other bread recipes for my bread machine. I am looking forward to your other recipes:)

These are the BEST buns that I’ve ever made!!! So light and fluffy mmmm….
Kayren
Where is there a button to print out the recipe?
happyhooligans
This recipe isn’t in printable format yet, Kayren. Sorry! I’m working my way through my blog, making all of the recipes printable, but it’s a bit of a long process. x
Kelly
Will regular yeast work or must it be instant?
happyhooligans
If you use regular yeast, I *think* you have to proof it first. Quick-rise yeast allows you to skip the proofing stage. I would double check with Google just to be sure about that though, Kelly.
Elaine C.
I saw Kelly asked if she could use regular yeast. I tried this recipe for lunch today and I must say, I’m so happy I came across your post! They are fantastic rolls! About the yeast, I doubt regular yeast would work without some prep to it, but I used Bread Machine yeast and it worked wonderfully.
I’ll likely make them again next weekend, but when I do, I’ll make sure not to keep the rack down close to the bottom element. I did that today (not even thinking about it) and at 350 F for 18 minutes, the bottoms burnt. I just cut the bottoms off and problem solved (the birds didn’t mind pecking at them when my husband hung them outside in an onion bag haha). I did have 4 in a pie plate on the upper rack and they were fine. For those 4, I added a little garlic powder and Parmesan cheese on the tops. They were very tasty!
Thank you very much for that recipe!
Elaine C.
I tried this with whole wheat flour (Five Roses or Robin Hood, I can’t remember which brand but it was one of those two). It is fantastic! I also took half the dough to make rolls then the other half to make a loaf (I did it for a white batch and a whole wheat batch). Same temperature and time for the loaf as the rolls. Awesome! And the loaves make really good toast. Hubby and I are really impressed with this recipe.
Another variation is that I used vegetable oil instead of margarine and it works the same. Butter too!
Linda
Hi. I have a question. Is this suitable for high altitude? I live at an elevation of 1, 159 meters or, 3802 ft …. thanks.
happyhooligans
I’m really not sure, Linda. You might want to google some information about your brand of bread machine when baking at high altitudes. The company’s website may have some information. Sorry I can’t help you with this one!
Vanessa
I live at 4500 ft and I was able to get these to work for me!. I just paid attention to the consistency of the dough while it was mixing to ensure that it wasn’t too dry or sticky. I used bread flour and slightly more salt than called for. I think the egg really helps provide the structure for these rolls and prevent them from falling at altitude.
Also, I added regular (non-instant) yeast without proofing and it worked fine)
My family of 5 destroyed an entire batch of these at dinner tonight. This recipe is a keeper, thanks!!!
happyhooligans
That’s great! Glad to hear everyone loved them, Vanessa!
Dan
I personally think the Karmin custom bread maker is the best (Y)
Nelson
Made these with all purpose flour, turned out perfect!
happyhooligans
Yay! So glad you tried them, Nelson!
Mandy
Mine turned out flat and I stuck to the recipe far to sticky and couldn’t roll them into a ball. Don’t rate at all unfortunately
happyhooligans
You definitely must have done something different, even if you don’t realize it, Mandy. I make these all the time, and they’ve never turned out flat or sticky. I’ve not had anyone else say they’ve encountered that problem either. Sorry they didn’t work out for you.
Flo
After reading about a few of the fails it occurred to me you forgot to suggest they check the date on their yeast. Bread machine Yeast does not have a long shelf life and is a critical ingredient in these fabulous buns. As a variation I added finely chopped fresh dill with great success! They were wonderful with our seafood chowder!
Jackie Currie
Good point about the date on the yeast, Flo! Love your suggestion to add fresh dill to the buns too! That sounds amazing!
Donna
Sticky, wet dough. This happened to me and if my grocery store had frozen Parker house rolls, I would have never tried again. It was a giant mess that I pulled out of the machine and just threw away.
Here’s what caused my problem. I originally followed the recipe exactly, used warm water and put the yeast in with the rest of the ingredients.
Solution (if you have a Panasonic machine) … use cold water and put the yeast in the dispenser on the top of the machine. Run the dough cycle and it comes out perfectly!
I was so excited to actually have made dinner rolls!
Rebecca
I have to agree with Mandy. I thought the first time I messed up but this dough came out the same as the last. Very sticky and no rise. I went ahead and baked this second batch but there is almost no rise to them. I will have to think about “third time’s a charm” before trying again.
Jackie Currie
I would check the freshness of your yeast, Rebecca. I store mine in the fridge, but there is a best before date on it. Also, make sure you’re using instant yeast or “quick rise” yeast, otherwise you’ll have to proof your yeast first with warm water and sugar in order for it to become active.
Laura
These came out really good. My dough seemed sticky, but I continued anyway and they turned out well. My husband loved them.
Patti
Have you tried making a week or 2 ahead and freezing them at ball stage? I have read other recipes that say to put balls on trays with parchment paper. Once frozen put balls in ziplock bags. When ready to bake take out the number of balls you want, put in your prepared baking pan and let thaw and rise 4-5 hours. Bake as directed.
Those recipes didn’t have egg in them, so I’m wondering if this would work the same? For Christmas this would be so much more convenient to prepare ahead of time. Your recipe sounds delicious so I’m hoping this will work
happyhooligans
I haven’t tried freezing them, Patti. I always make them the same day but most dough recipes I know of can be frozen. I do that with my cinnamon rolls. I freeze them and then let them thaw and rise for several hours. I imagine it would be the same for these buns.
Li-an
Best. Dinner rolls. Ever. I made a 2nd batch to take to my daughter and my dear husband turned the kitchen upside down looking for them. LOL!
happyhooligans
Haha! I love it, Li-an!
Shelley
I just found this recipe last month, and I am making them fir the third time right now. Both previous times they turned out wonderful. I have tried probably 10 other recipes over the years and these were by far the best. Also nice to have a recipe made with basic items I always have in the pantry ….I don’t often stock bread flour or odd items. Thanks for sharing!!
Caitlin
These buns are excellent! How long do you let them rise after you have left them shaped in the fridge overnight? Thanks!
happyhooligans
Hi Caitlin! Glad you love them too. 🙂 I mention it in the post but you may have missed it.They do a slow rise in the fridge. Just take them out an hour or two before baking, and they’ll finish their rise. Then, bake as instructed in the post. Good luck!
Kiera D.
Amazing rolls! Just made them for dinner this evening and couldn’t wait to try one..will be making another couple batches for a big family dinner coming up soon! Thanks for posting
happyhooligans
Great to hear, Kiera! I’m glad you love them!
Lilo
These buns look amazing and I really want to try to make them for dinner tonite. However I have a small combi oven and seems like maybe only half of the amount of rolls can fit. Would you advise me to half the recipe or can I freeze the other half?
happyhooligans
I would just halve the recipe, Lilo or divide the recipe into 2 baking dishes and bake them separately.
Krystal
OMG I just tried this bread recipe for the first time and I kind of doubt it myself because I don’t really do a great job at making dinner rolls and Breads and stuff like that so I just followed the recipe and I baked it for 13 minutes and my daughter came home and asked for a piece of bread and I said go ahead and I bit into a piece and all I can say is wow it is amazing they’re nice and soft and perfect they have a little bit of salt in them lots of butter wow I can’t get over them I want to eat them all
Jackie Currie
Yay! So glad you had success! And yes!! Aren’t they delicious?!
Nettie
Well these rolls were a huge success! They were all gone within 15 min! These were light n fluffy. I will definitely make these again. Very easy to throw together. Thank Yu!
Jackie Currie
Yay! I’m so glad you loved them, Nettie! They don’t last long around here either!
abby
iv just made these twice over the past 2 days and they are yum very fluffy on the inside however both times they have come out rather flat like an inch thick what am I doing wrong? is my mix to wet or could it b that I use egg straight from the fridge? these would be perfect if I could just get them to rise up rather than expanding flat
Jackie Currie
Hi Abby, I’ve never had a problem with my rolls not rising. Are you using fresh yeast (and the correct kind of yeast?)
Gail
I Add a little less than a 1/4 cup of honey to the recipe. The rolls were really good. Unfortunately I had a little trouble with the plastic wrap and had to reroll my rolls. But other than that it was all good. Definitely would make them again.
Joy Oladimeji,
This is wonderful am going to give a try.
Jackie Currie
I’m making some today, Joy! I hope you love them as much as we do!
Maria
I have been staring at this recipe for months. I love dinner rolls and was so worried it might be too much work. I finally tried this recipe Monday night and it was sooooooo easy. She s right the bread machine does all the heavy lifting. I sprinkled a glass cutting board with floor and used a sharp knife to divide my dough into 16 pieces. It took less than five mins to do that. It baked perfectly. these rolls were done the next morning. we could not stop eating it. Thank you so much for sharing this recipe. I was wondering if I cut down the sugar from 1/4 cup to say 2 tbsp, do I need to adjust the time required for the buns to rise?
Maria
I meant sprinkled the cutting board with Flour not floor
GordN
I have a fast PC and unlimited data bandwidth. The ads on this page make reading your recipes so painful I gave up.
Jackie Currie
Can you elaborate, GordN? Is the page loading slowly for you or are you just annoyed by the ads? My page’s load time tests very quickly on both mobile and desktop, so if the ads are just more of an annoyance, I apologize, but as you’ll find, most bloggers do run ads as a way to compensate for the 1000’s (yes, that’s correct) of dollars that it costs to run a professional blog or website.
Loretta
I was looking for an easy recipe. Made a batch, had a bunch of girls over and they all attacked the bread. Made a new batch but instead of making 16 rolls made 9…still came out great. Thank you for the recipe. For sure its going to become a regular.
Jackie Currie
Yay! I’m glad they were a hit at your house, Loretta!
Becky Haines
Hello, can I double this recipe or would that be too much for my machine, it can make up to 2 lbs at one time. Thank you so much!
Jackie Currie
I don’t think I’d risk doubling it, Becky.

These are the best rolls ever. Friends and family are always requesting that I make them. Ive shared the recipe but they just can’t seem to master it. I just think they like delivery service.
Steve Bruhne
After searching for the best yeast sweet dinner roll online for the best… This one nails it… Wonderfully fluffy… Melt in your mouth… Delicious… I however added 1/2 cup of sugar to the recipe… Perfect… The next day I made cinnamon rolls with this recipe… OMG!!!. The yummiest ever… I removed the dough after the bread machine finished… Lightly Floured a nonstick board… As the dough was a little sticky… Added flour a little at a time while I punched the down and kneaded it by hand adding until the dough lost its stickyness and was easy to handle so as not to stick to my hands… I took a rolling pen and rolled the dough to make an oblong rectangle. I then spreaded 2 tbls oh melted butter on the dough and sprinkled it generously with cinnamon and dark brown sugar.. I rolled the dough jelly roll style and cut into 16 pieces… Spray with cooking spray 16X12. Place the 16 rolls in the pan. I Used glass pan. Cover and let rise 40 minutes. Brush rolls with 2 Tbls melted butter. Bake 15 minutes in preheated oven… I’ve also made Hamburger and hot dog buns using this recipe…
Jackie Currie
I’m so glad you love our recipe, Steve! I’ve never tried making hamburger or hotdog buns, but I’ve always wanted to. I may just give that a go in 2020!
Jojo
By far the best bread machine bun recipe out there
I have made different variations I have made with this recipe including onion buns and garlic twists.
The buns are always so light and fluffy and I always get compliments when I take them to events.
Jackie Currie
Thanks for letting us know how much you love them, Jojo!
Becky Turner
I used your broad recipe to make cinnamon buns today!
Becky Turner
Used this bread recipe for cinnamon buns today! Thank you
Jackie Currie
Yay! Glad you liked it, Becky!
Kathleen
Can you use bread machine yeast instead?
Jackie Currie
I believe you can, Kathleen. Just google it to see if the two are interchangeable.
Jackie Currie
Yes, I just googled it, Kathleen, and the Fleischmann’s site says bread machine yeast and rapid-rise and active yeast can all be used interchangeably.
Pat Pinter
I can’t believe how easy and wonderful these are. During the pandemic, we aren’t going to the store and are using this recipe for burger buns. Just make them a bit bigger than the dinner rolls. They have been a hit.. making the rolls for Easter dinner today.
Jackie Currie
Fabulous! I’m going to have to try your hamburger bun trick!
Kerith
Can I substitute the 2 tbs margarine in the recipe for butter?
Jackie Currie
Yes, I did just the other day, and they turned out perfectly! I’ll have to make a note of that in the post!
Tina
Made these tonight, and my family of four devoured 12 of the 16 for supper. SO GOOD! They rival my husband’s grandmother’s recipe. Honestly. I’m going to try them as three ball buns, baked in a muffin tin like his grandma used to make. Thanks for a keeper recipe!
Jackie Currie
Wow! I’m so honoured that they compete with a long-time family recipe! So glad you enjoyed them, Tina! Thank you for your rave review!
Jackie
Can I use active dry yeast
Jackie Currie
I did some googling, and it looks like you can, Jackie. Some people recommend proofing it in a bit of warm water/sugar first, but other say they don’t, and their bread machine recipes turn out fine. Maybe do some googling first to get a feel for what you want to do.
Vivienne
These rolls are lovely! I’ve made them a number of times, as they go well with lots of our dinners. Our current favorite use is to have them with Sloppy Joes, which my husband and I both agree that they are PERFECT for! I do agree that the dough is sticky, but as long as you play around with adding a little flour while still in the kneading stage in the machine, it’s easy to adjust. Also I dust with a bit more flour while I’m forming the rolls on my counter.
Many thanks for this tasty addition to my bread machine recipes!! 🙂
Corinne
Well, it took a pandemic to get me to do it, but I dug out my good ‘ol bread machine today and made these buns. Of course, I didn’t have all purpose flour, since it was sold out, so I used Robin Hood multi-grain best-for-bread flour instead. Also subbed in coconut beverage instead of water (the boxed kind from Costco) because I needed to use it up. The bun turned out delicious and fluffy. In fact, I’m eating my second one right now, with some real butter. Yum. Will have for supper, with soup, and my husband can use them for his lunch, too.
Des
These turned out amazing! By far the best bread machine rolls I have made yet. Would definitely recommend this recipe and will for sure be making these a part of my regular dinner rotation.
Pat Kirby
My grandchildren think these are the very best dinner rolls and so do I. Our whole family loves the cinnamon buns and we have the Honey bread in the bread maker as I write this Love your website!
Fiona Coombes
These are the best rolls I have ever made. So soft and light. I followed the instructions and they turned out brilliant.. They smell lovely when they are cooking too. I have made them twice and am sure I will make them many more times to come. Thank you.
Jackie Currie
Thank you, Fiona! I’m glad you love them too. I’ve made them so many times in the past few weeks because we’re not going to the grocery store very often. I’m making them again today!
Juanita Bunch
Best dinner rolls I’ve ever made. My family raved about them and ate until they were stuffed. Thanks for the recipe and the tips.
Joann
Been using your bun recipe for quite some time now not only do I use it to make the dinner buns but I use it to make bread and also garlic knots yummy. Best bread machine recipe out there
Jackie Currie
Thanks, Joann! I’m glad our recipe has become a go-to for you!
Doris Fulkerson
Awesome and easy
Nadine
This is the most consistent and delicious recipe. I make this recipe at least once a week since March. I only have active dry yeast so I put it, the sugar and warm water in the base of the breadmaker. Set a timer for 10 minutes and then add the rest of the ingredients. Sometimes I sub 1/3 of the flour with whole wheat flour and it still turns out great.
When working from home I’d start them on my coffee break and we could have fresh buns for lunch/dinner! Serve with egg salad, or shape into 8 burger buns for hamburgers, pulled pork or brisket. Sometimes, I even use it as the base for cinnamon buns!
Jackie Currie
Wonderful! Thanks for letting me know you love our recipe, Nadine. I really have to try making hamburger buns with it. All I ever make are the dinner rolls.
P.Wilson
Wow! Turned out awesome!
Jackie Currie
Yay! Thanks for the 5-star review!
Tina
Perfect! I used half the amount of sugar (wanted them to be more savory). I forgot to brush the butter on at the end and they still turned out great! Thank you for sharing the recipe…it is one I will come back to again and again.
Jackie Currie
I’m so glad they turned out beautifully for you, Tina. Thank you for the 5-star review.
Sue
This is the best recipe ever. The rolls are so light & airy they were gone in only a few minutes!
Jackie Currie
Thank you for the five-star rating, Sue! I’m so glad everyone enjoyed them!
Joanne
I have made these a few times and they are THE family favourite! Thank you!!!
Jackie Currie
Thanks for the great review, Joanne. I’m glad they’re a favourite at your house too!
Malinda
DELICIOUS!!! I have always used the dinner roll recipe from my bread machine recipe book. I just got a new bread machine and no dinner roll recipe with it. I found this recipe and tried it for lunch today. AMAZING!! I’ve been making buns for years, both bread machine and mixer. The dough was soooooo perfect coming out of the bread machine! They baked up beautifully. I love making buns, but don’t always eat them myself – I polished off TWO tonight waiting for my soup to heat up! Anxious to try sweet rolls with it!
Jackie Currie
I’m glad you loved these, Melissa. It’s one of our family’s favourite recipes too!
Shelley
These were excellent. So soft and fluffy. Next time I’ll bake a little longer as I only baked for 12 min in my convection oven and were still a little doughy. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t mind at all but my husband is a little more picky. I’ll probably add a little bit more salt next time too. These were so close to tasting like my grandmas, which I’ve been searching for the past 20 years.
Maureen
Just had one hot out of the oven with some butter. Too scrumptious! Thank you for this awesome recipe. This is now my “go to” dinner roll recipe.
Jackie Currie
You’re so welcome,Maureen! I’m honoured that they’ve become a go-to at your house!
Lisa
Great recipe! Rolls always turn out perfect. Thank you for sharing all the tips.
Jackie Currie
You’re so welcome, Lisa! Thank YOU for the great review!
Lynette Schick
I made these for Thanksgiving and they are great! I made them in in two small baking dishes (sort of like pie pans, but with straight sides), so they were a bit bigger than the photos. But, they are going to be great for leftover turkey sandwiches. I’ll definitely make them again.
Jackie Currie
YES! We do the same thing with these buns and our leftover turkey, Lynette!
Andrea
I forgot to buy rolls for Thanksgiving dinner so was frantically looking for a bread machine roll recipe. I chose this one because of the great reviews and the simplicity. They turned out so great! Everyone loved them. No more Pillsbury tubes for me! Next time I will definitely try the overnight refrigerated version to make things even easier.
Jackie Currie
Yay! I’m thrilled that you loved them, and so happy to think that our recipe saved the day for you!
Nancy
I made these rolls yesterday for the first time, my family absolutely loved them. We hosted my immediate family for Thanksgiving and those rolls were a hit fresh out of the oven. Instead of sprinkling Salt on top I used Everything Bagel Seasoning and it put these rolls over the top. Super easy to make and so delicious!
manta
grabbed the wrong flour and used self raising flour instead. it was veery sticky so ended up using bread flour to re-knead and they turned out like scones! The kids loved them! Thank you for the recipe!.
Jackie Currie
What a happy accident! I’m so glad your kids enjoyed them. Wait until you use the correct flour! They’ll love them even more!
Natasha
Hi I am from the UK and just tried these as the reviews are really good.
Not sure what I did wrong but my dough was so sticky that it would not form. I persisted and made sure I rolled it in flour to help form them but they were too wet in consistency so spread out rather than rising. When baked they were flat….but tasted amazing!
I used new yeast so know that was not out of date so not sure what the issue was?
Can you let me know the measurements in ml and g in case I added too much water please?
Definitely want to try again.
Jackie Currie
Hmm. That’s strange considering you used new yeast, Natasha. There must have been something off with one of the measurements. A standard cup here is the equivalent to 250 mls. I really hope it works for you next time. They’re so good!
Sue
So many bread dough recipes I’ve tried turn out too dense and doughy. These are light and delicious, like eating a buttery cloud of wonderful! Made half into dinner rolls and other half into a loaf to give away.. Both are too pretty to eat…almost!
Maureen
Scrumptious! This is the only recipe for dinner rolls that I will ever use.. So easy to make and so tasty to eat. Thank you for this recipe..
Lis Michel
Absolutely amazing. Super soft – like air. And, as always, Jackie has made a clear, simple, totally trustworthy recipe (I’m very busy and am reluctant to try new recipes if there’s a risk that they won’t turn out and my time will have been waster – no such worries here). Thank you!!
Barbara Powell
These are absolutely the most delicious rolls I have ever made or tasted!! Thank you so much for sharing!
Marie Michèle
I never leave comment, but really need to take the time now. Those are the best rolls i’ve ever eat ! They are so good could eat all of them!
Shelley
These are so easy and amazing buns!,, Have made them several times and they always turn out awesome !!!
Paula Klipfel
Best roll recipe I’ve ever made!!!!!!
Jackie Currie
Excellent to hear, Paula! I’m glad you loved them.
Maureen
Scrumptious! I made these for Thanksgiving and Christmas. Gloomy January had me make some just to enjoy, and enjoy them I did. Only downside is that they are so delicious that my diet is shot! Thanks for the great recipe.
Angie
Best bun recipe ever!! Thank you for sharing.
Katie Carroll
This was fabulous. I’ll admit, I forgot to put the sugar in lol.
Didn’t realize until I tasted it and they didn’t brown. BUT…
Since I was using them for hamburger (8) buns it was fine just toasted on the grill.
They were still wonderful. Thank you for this!
Jackie Currie
I have a batch in my bread machine as we speak, Katie. I’ve forgotten to add the sugar too. I’m not sure why, but I actually have it marked with an asterisk and a little note “Don’t for get sugar!” now. Good to know they still tasted good. They’ll be even better next time!
Sharon
I made these rolls, following the recipe exactly and they turned out perfectly. They are delicious!!
Jackie Currie
Thanks, Sharon! I’m so glad you loved them.
Catherine G
This recipe makes the best buns I have ever made. Thank you so much for sharing.
Jackie Currie
I’m so glad you think so too, Catherine! We devoured a batch of them with our Easter dinner!
Mark Vorhees
I have made these rolls 6 times and have a batch in the breaad machine now. This is a fool proof recipe. They have turned out perfect every time. The only change I made was to cut the dough into 15 pieces instead of 16. This made it easier to bake the rolls in a 9 X 13 brownie pan. My family loves them.
Jackie Currie
Awesome! I’m so happy you love them so much, Mark! I’ve made them so many times this past winter and spring. My family devours them!
Robin MacGeorge
I just made these rolls and they are the best I have ever made. My twin grandsons showed up just as they came out of the oven. I went upstairs to get something for them to take home to their mom and when I got back to the kitchen they had devoured 12 of the 16 rolls I made. Guess this recipe is a keeper. Thank you so much for sharing your wonderful recipe.
Lisa
I am trying these today and can’t wait. Anyway why so much sugar, I don’t like it when my bread is to sweet, can I not cut the sugar so not so much.
Jackie Currie
Go for it. I believe yeast needs a certain amount of sugar in order to rise properly though, so you may want to do some googling first.
Nancy Lerer
I have tried 3 other bread machine rolls that didn’t turn out at all!!! I made sure that my water was over 110 degrees and my egg was room temperature!! I did make one change, I brushed the melted butter on the rolls after they had fully risen and they turned out AMAZING!!! This will be my go to recipe from now on!! Thanks for your assistance with the recipe!!!
Jackie Currie
YESS! I’m so happy to know that you love them too!
Alan Bound
Great recipe. I do all of my dough-making for any breads in my machine. Just a tip for variation. If you’re making them for a specific accompaniment – say a tomato soup – add some dried basil before mixing, and it’ll give the rolls a great added flavour.
Jackie Currie
Wonderful idea, Alan. I haven’t tried adding herbs to the dough, but I’ve added herbs to the homemade butter we spread on the rolls, and that’s delicious!
Anna
I used bread flour instead of regular all purpose flour and follow the instructions exactly and they didn’t rise I also bought a new thing of yeast and tested it 1st and it was good.
vivienne
THIS WAS SO GOOD HEHEHE when i first took it out from my machine it was abit wet so i kept kneading in more flour until it was soft and fluffy ~ turned out so yummy !! i used butter
Jackie Currie
Excellent! I’m happy you loved them, Vivienne!
Catherine Gillespie
These are the best buns I have ever had. Super soft and fluffy. Thank you for sharing this recipe. It has become the only recipe I now use for buns.
Jackie Currie
I’m so glad to hear it’s become your go-to recipe for buns too, Catherine!
Debbie
I used to have to wait for my sister to make yeast rolls. Thanks to you, I can now make my own anytime I want! These are so incredibly delicious. This was easy and didn’t take long to make. Thank you so much for this recipe! I’m going to make these often.
Jackie Currie
You’re so welcome, Debbie. Thanks for letting me know how much you enjoyed them!
Debe
Outstanding!! Turned out perfectly as a side to my homemade chicken with wild rice soup!!!
Nettie
This recipe is excellent! Super easy to put together! Light n fluffy! Will definitely make it again! Smells heavenly!
Michelle
This recipe it amazing. I measured out all my ingredients and added to the bread machine in the correct order. Powered on the machine and nothing happens. My bread machine apparently burnt up. In a panic my husband and I quickly got out our stand mixer and got the dough kneaded and followed the rest of the directions in the recipe wondering if it would work. The results were amazing. Fluffy rolls with a terrific flavor! Thank you so much for sharing this recipe!
Jacqueline
Helped me a lot
Barry
I have a 1lb. bread machine so should I cut the recipe in half?
Jeanne Monroe
hi, wondering if there are metric measurements? thank you!
Jackie Currie
Hi Jeanne, you can use a measurement converter like this one: https://www.healthlinkbc.ca/sites/default/files/healthyeating/pdf/imperial-metric-conversions.pdf
Jenn
My son’s favorite part of a holiday dinner.
I’m still trying to figure out appropriate recipe tweaks now that we’ve moved from 33 ft to an elevation of 6200 ft. Anyone have tips to offer?
Michael Hulbert
I made my dough balls 1.5 ounces and placed them in a 12 muffin and 6 muffin baking pan and baked for 15 minutes, they came out perfect.
Michael Hulbert
I made my dough balls 1.5 ounces and placed them in a 12 muffin and 6 muffin baking pan and baked for 15 minutes, they came out perfect. I also replaced the sugar with sweetener.
Glen
Can I use gluten free flour?
Jackie Currie
I think you’d be better to look for a dinner roll recipe that’s specifically developed to be gluten free., Glen. I’m not sure how this recipe would do if you adapted it to be GF.
Bill in CNY
I made these for Christmas Dinner. Too Easy!
They came out great and everyone loved them
Thanks for sharing these.
Merry Christmas
Jackie Currie
I’m so glad you liked them, Bill! I made them several times over the holidays. Love how easy they are!
Renita J Leflore
Thank you for this roll recipe. It was an incredible addition to my Christmas dinner. So easy!
Jackie Currie
You’re so welcome, Renita! I hope they become a family favourite at your house!
Linda
Amazing. These turned out perfect!! I think these would be perfect for cinnamon rolls too!
Jackie Currie
I’m so glad you enjoyed them, Linda. I do have an amazing bread machine cinnamon roll recipe on my blog as well. You can find it here: https://happyhooligans.ca/bread-machine-cinnamon-rolls/
Gillian S
Omg, I love these buns, I have made them several times since I found this recipe. I have sometimes even made then twice in one week.
Jackie Currie
Same here! I made them several times over the holidays! I’m so glad you love them as much as we do, Gillian!
abby
Best dinner rolls ever!! They are super easy and turn out great every time. I’ve made them about 20 times now we love them so much!
Rachel
I’ve been trying to find a good dinner roll recipe. This is the best so far. I even made dough in bread maker and they turned out beautifully. Light fluffy golden deliciousness. I used butter instead of margarine.
Jackie Currie
I’m glad you loved them, Rachel!
Kim
These are five star rolls. Thank you so much for this delicious out come, These rolls are fluffy, soft and edible. I cooked mine in a toaster oven so some were golden and some a little over cooked on the top.
Jackie Currie
Thanks for taking the time to let me know you love them, Kim! So interesting to know you can bake them in a toaster oven!!
Anthea
The best Dinner Roll/Bread Roll recipe I have every tried, and when I take them anywhere, everybody loves them.
Cynthia
Came out excellent as is
Lori
These came out wonderful!! Family already asking when am I making more. Do you think the dough could be used to make cinnamon rolls as well?
Jackie Currie
I’m not sure if it would be the right consistency. I do have a cinnamon roll recipe here though: https://happyhooligans.ca/bread-machine-cinnamon-rolls/
Karen
The nuns a so light and delicious. Wondering if this recipe be used to make a loaf of bread?
Jackie Currie
I’m not sure, Karen. I have other bread recipes I use for loaves. I’ve only ever made buns with this recipe.
Laura
Hi Jackie,
Can the water be replaced with milk? I’ve seen other roll recipes where you can use either one
Jackie Currie
I’ve only ever used water for this recipe, Laura, so I can’t say.
Angel
I’ve had a bread machine for a year and a half and finally opened the box today to try and make something. This is my first time ever making bread and I am thrilled at how good they turned out. They are INSANELY good – golden, light and fluffy. I had no idea a roll could taste so good. I’m sure I will be making these regularly, and after reading through all the reviews I’m also going to try making my own hamburger and hotdog buns as well.
I followed the directions exactly, and my bread machine’s dough setting is also 1 hour 30 minutes, but my rolls turned out much larger than yours. I could actually only fit 11 in the 9×13 dish. Any idea why that was, and does it matter? Also, when I cut the dough into 16 pieces I found it a bit hard to roll them into balls. Where they were cut was nice and sticky but the outside was already a tiny bit dry and so trying to get it into a ball shape was a bit of a challenge. Is there a trick to that? And is it ok to knead them a bit when you’re rolling them to get them round or will that cause problems later? I’m totally new to bread-making so any guidance you can give is appreciated. Thanks for the great recipe!
Brandi
I could not make dinner buns to save my life – UNTIL THESE – They were perfect the first time i tried them. I have made them about 10 times since ( just incase the first time was a fluke ) and they have turned out perfect every time. I change nothing except I make 12 buns instead of 16 because I find they fit better in the pan. Another outstanding recipe from Happy Hooligans! Thank you!
Angie D
I’ve been using your recipe for years now. This is my go to for rolls, hotdog buns and cinnamon buns. Thank you so much for sharing. These rolls turn out perfect every time!
Louanne
Excellent! I’ll never buy dinner rolls again!
Denise Brady
This is my “GO TO” recipes for Hamburger rolls/ Dinner Buns in other words any rolls/buns I want. Could not tell you how many times I have followed this FANTASTIC Recipe. Thank You so much. Cheers- Denise Brisbane Aust.
Michelle
These came out delicious, light as a feather. I baked
them in muffin tins.
April
If I could give this recipe 6 stars, I would! These rolls are amazing and family comes running when I tell them I am making this recipe. Light and airy doesn’t even describe the taste. Thank you for this amazing recipe!
Jackie Currie
Thank you, April! My family responds the same way!
Judy
Thanks so much! These are PERFECT! I was making rolls with a bread dough recipe and they were bland and, well like bread…These are so soft and much more flavorful. I might just try making bread with it too! Haha
Lexie
These are perfect and so easy to make!
Pam
They ARE the Best Dinner Rolls! Easy! Fast! Yummy! Exactly as stated. Had a senior brain burp and used MILK instead of water and they still turned out so yummy and moist! Will make again and again! Thank you!!
Angel
I have made these twice and they are delicious but they don’t quite turn out correctly for me, as they are much much bigger than yours. My bread machine dough setting also takes 1 hour 30 minutes like your does, but I believe it rises three times in that 90 minutes. When I go to cut them into balls they are easily double the size of yours and there is no way they fit in a 9×13 pan. I just put in as many as I could and still leave a 1″ gap and then baked them. Once they are cooked they seem to be a bit flatter than they should be. Do you think I should remove them earlier in the dough cycle after the second proof and then do the third proof myself? I’m a dough novice and I’m wondering if they are over proofed? Help!
Allison Howlett
I found this 2 days before Christmas and I’ve made 6 batches now….. my family is addicted!!!! Add a couple TSP of Italian seasoning for pasta night! Thank you for sharing this. Looking for a white bread recipe from you now.
Allison
Trish
Just made this. So easy, so fluffy, so good.
Kelly
Without a doubt the best bread.machine recipe out there! I have people begging me for the recipe all the time, and I send them here! It also works amazingly well for cinnamon buns too! I have a set rising on my counter from making them overnight, as I type this! Thank you for this awesome recipe!
Ali
Awesome buns! Only took 10 minutes in my oven. Stayed fresh for a few days. Very fluffy and soft.
Anna
These are the best buns ever!! And everyone I’ve ever made them for would agree. I make them all the time. Thank you for sharing your recipe!
Karyn M
Made these today for my first attempt and I am so pleased with the results! They turned out so light and fluffy! This will be made again for sure!
Robyn
Best recipe ever! I have tried many. These are fluffy and a little crispy on the bottom. Thanks for sharing. It’s a keeper
Yolande
The dinner rolls were a hit! Glad I found your recipe. Wondering if you’ve ever tried half all purpose flour and half whole wheat flour? I am trying to add more fibre to everyone’s diets at home.
Danielle
My first attempt at making buns and they tuned out AMAZING!! Not to mention how ridiculously easy they are to make. The fluffiest buns I’ve ever had – definitely a keeper. Thank you.
Linda
Best buns EVER. I’m going to try freezing them and then baking them for Easter. My question is do I need to thaw them overnight in the fridge, will 4 to 5 hours in the fridge thaw them completely.?
Matti
Thank you so much for sharing this AMAZING recipe!! These rolls have become a family favorite and I LOVE that they are so easy to make!
S.Brenton
These were delicious and easy to make!!!
Wendy S
Just pulled a pan of these babies out of the oven. Great recipe, easy to make and the rolls taste AMAZING ! Thanks for sharing
Sandra boyd
Wow! These are the best buns ever, I have made this recipe 3 times going on my 4th time today.. my friends and family are over the hill in love with them. This is my go to recipe for absolutely perfect buns! Pretty soon I’ll have this recipe memorized hahaha! What more can I say they are perfection, thank you thank you!!
Leslie
These are seriously!!! Good. I will make these often!! Our local store is very light on fresh baked goods, probably not enough staff so, I’ve been in search of “easy” and “delicious” and this is it!!! Thank you for this great find. The portioned buns seemed small and wanted for sandwiches for the boat so I divided into 12. Will make great burger or pulled pork buns but I will definitely divide into 16 next round.
AWESOME buns. L
Dorothy
Beautiful, fool proof even for a beginner. Highly recommend.
Mark
Most excellent!
Jackie Currie
Thank you, Mark!
Dorothy
Have you tried doubling the recipe? Not sure if it would work.
Jackie Currie
I’ve never doubled it, Dorothy. I don’t think my bread machine could handle twice the amount of ingredients.
Amber
These are the best ever! We made honey butter to go on them —awesome!
Jackie Currie
Thanks, Amber! Your homemade honey-butter sounds delicious!
Tara
I made these and LOVE them! I will confess, I didn’t follow directions. I preheat my oven and put the rolls in the oven to rise but I forgot to turn the oven off beforehand. However they still turned out and taste wonderful! They rose and cooked at the same time. Now I wonder how much better they would be if I did turn the oven off as directed? Or if they would be about the same
April W
If I could give these 8 starts, I would. I have requests for just these rolls as a birthday gift! They are so easy and taste amazing. The rolls are gone before the meal is done on thanksgiving. Thank you for sharing.
Jackie Currie
Wow! Thank you! What a compliment! These go quickly at our house too!
Carrie
Hands down the best bun recipe. I’ve made them a few times now and they always turn out so fluffy and buttery. I’m now the official bun maker for family events.
Do you think this could be made as a loaf if I put it on the quick cycle?
Jackie Currie
I love that you’re the official bun master in your family now! I’m afraid I don’t know if it would work out as a loaf. Sorry!
Mark
Bodacious!!
Jackie Currie
Glad you loved them, Mark!
Leslie
This is an AWESOME recipe! I’ve made them several times and we all love them. We couldn’t seem to get fresh bread products close by at our place in MT like we used to so, after several years, I turned to my Bread Maker. and this is a winner.!! Now I make them in the Canadian house even without the bread maker..
I do cut back sugar by probably a TBSP or so and I only use 2 tsp yeast and works every time.
Jen
I’ve made these twice now and they’re super wet and sticky but they come out DELICIOUS. Anyway, I think I just figured it out why they’re wet and sticky—your recipe calls for all-purpose flour but your website appears to be Canadian so guessing you live in Canada. Canadian all-purpose flour is required to have much more protein than ours down here in the states. I will switch to bread flour next time!
Jackie Currie
Oh, you might be right about the difference in our flour. I’m glad you like them, and hopefully if you switch to bread flour next time, they’ll turn out even better!
