This cheerful construction paper rainbow craft can be made for St. Patrick’s Day and/or International Happiness Day. It encourages happy thoughts and gets kids focusing on the positive, and can serve as a pick-me-up on difficult days.
This Rainbow Happiness Craft covers 2 holidays – St. Patrick’s Day and International Happiness Day which follows on Mar 20th.

The inspiration for this rainbow happiness cloud was the kindness cloud we made for World Kindness Day a few years ago.
Now that we’re a year into the pandemic, I’m hearing a lot of talk about kids hitting the “pandemic wall”.
I came up with this craft as a way to get kids focusing on happy thoughts and positivity, so the idea is to get them to think of things that bring them joy, and write them on the colour bands of the rainbow.
Glitter is optional of course, but heck, there’s nothing like a little dose of glitter to put a smile on most kids’ faces.
Your kids can display their happiness rainbow in a place where it will lift spirits on difficult days, and remind them of the good things in life, and that better days are always in store.
Older kids will love our yarn rainbow wall hanging.

Rainbow Happiness Cloud Craft
- Cut out Cloud
Begin by cutting a cloud out of a piece of white card stock. Make your cloud large enough to accommodate all the colours bands of your rainbow. Our clouds measure approx. 8 inches across and 4 inches high.
Add a happy face to your cloud with your markers. - If making rainbow with strips below cloud:
If you’re making the cloud with the colour bands that drop out of the bottom, cut strips out of coloured card stock. Make them long enough and wide enough for your kids to easily write on.
**Skip to Step 5 - If making rainbow with coloured arcs above:
Place a piece of regular white paper behind the cloud, and draw the lines of your rainbow on it, making sure to stay within the width of the cloud.
Label the arcs in rainbow order. - Cut out arcs
Use this piece as a template to cut out your coloured pieces, starting with the red piece.
- Layer and glue
Layer the coloured pieces on top of each other and glue them together.
- Glue colours to cloud
Lay your cloud on top of your arrangement of coloured bands or strips, and glue in place.
- Write on your rainbow strips or bands
Using a marker, write one thing you’re grateful for on each band or strip of your rainbow.
- Add glitter
This step is optional of course, but who doesn’t get happy when they see a bit of glitter?
Add a thin line of liquid glue just inside the outline of the cloud. Sprinkle with glitter, and shake off excess.
