As I write this, it’s 26 degrees celsius at 10:30 p.m. It’s hard to imagine it’s already September, and that summer’s coming to an end. The crickets are chirping, the pond is bubbling, the air is heavy. I love this season. I can’t get enough of “outside” in summertime.
I’m curled up in my very favourite place right now. See where Matthew is? That’s where I am. In my own little bit of Heaven. This is where I spend a good part of my summer kicking back with a book, escaping the heat afternoon heat, playing games with my boys, and relaxing with my husband.
It’s where we gather with friends and family, and where we celebrate summer birthdays and holidays. It’s where I start most mornings mornings with a coffee and my lap-top, and where we unwind at the end of the day. In summertime, If I’m at home, it’s where you’ll almost always find me.
Our deck is fully covered (my handy hubby took care of that a couple of years ago), so I can sit here on wet, rainy days, and we’ve strung mini lights just under the roof which makes it so cozy and intimate at night. It’s quiet and peaceful at any time of day, but even more-so at night. I often have the company of Mama Robin, who has nested in the rafters these past two summers. She and I have spent many evenings out here together, while I read or write into the wee hours.
Our pool is at one end of the deck,
And our pond is just a few steps away.
This is my view from here.
Mmmmmmm…..heaven. There’s almost no-where else I’d rather be on a summer’s day.
But all good things must come to an end, and so our lazy days are winding down. School starts back up Tuesday, so my boys will head off, and our backyard will be filled with Hooligans climbing up, sliding down, and swinging from the trees. 🙂 It’s good. I’ve rested long enough. I’m never happy to see my boys go back to school; I love having them home with me, but it’s time to get back into a routine, and get some structure back in our days.
Good-bye, summer, you were incredible. Miss you already…
