Here’s a quick, 1-minute pumpkin decorating idea that could’t be any easier! It’s the perfect last-minute pumpkin decorating idea for those of you who are too busy or just can’t be bothered to carve your pumpkin.
If Halloween arrives and you realize you’ve forgotten to carve your pumpkin, or if you just want a super-quick and easy way to decorate a jack-o-lantern (with out any fuss or mess), you’re in luck!
Mr. Potato Head to the rescue! With this little trick, you can have an adorable, whimsical “jack-o-lantern” in seconds!
I don’t know about you, but when I was a kid, carving the jack-o-lantern was one of the most exciting things about Halloween.
Even when my kids were little, carving the pumpkin was a major event! My husband and I looked forward to including the kids in the process – laying out newspaper, scooping out the guts and carving elaborate well-thought-out faces into our beloved pumpkin.
Oh man, those were the days.
Believe it or not, my best friend and I would begin planning and sewing the kids Halloween costumes in August. AUGUST! By the time October rolled around, our kids would have these awesome homemade costumes that we’d lovingly spent hours and hours sewing and painting (yes, painting – see the skeleton costume and the Woody vest below). Teletubbies, Disney Characters, Dinosaurs with head pieces and spikey-spikes trailing down their backs and tails.
It was a beautiful thing.
Fast-forward 10 or years or so, and somehow between seeing the last of the daycare hooligans out the door, getting homework done, and racing a kid or two off to hockey practice and back, we became the family that would scramble after dinner ON Halloween night to pull the costumes together. The kids would end up scrounging through my husband’s and my closet to make something work. Ha! Oh how times change!
And, as would be expected, one year, we forgot about the pumpkin altogether. Yep. The kids were getting ready to head out the door with their trick-or-treat bags, and I realized we hadn’t carved a jack-o-lantern.
What’s a mom to do?
Well, I’ll tell you what she does! She spies the potato head pieces that the daycare kids had been playing with a few hours earlier, and she jams those into the pumpkin. Mr Potato Head saves the day. He’s so handy, isn’t he? Remember when we used his parts to make potato head snow people?
And so you have it, the Potato Head-Pumpkin! The perfect solution when you need a super-easy way to decorate a jack-o-lantern!
