We spend a ton of time outside here and, and the materials that we play with are usually quite basic. Here’s an example of how the imagination can turn 2 simple items into creative, artsy fun. The girls found a couple of popsicle sticks in the chalk bucket one day, and without any input from me, discovered that when they rubbed the chalk with the stick, “dust happened”. Well, they were off to the races, they dusted and they dusted, the plants, the patio, their feet… and then they discovered the fine art of making tracings with the chalk dust. I love it when little people figure make big discoveries, all on their own. So, here’s a picture of the chalk tracings to get things started. Hope you enjoy some of these fun, but simple activities as much as the Hooligans do.

I absolutely love these outdoor play ideas. I think we need to add some ramps to our sandbox too.
These ideas are great, great, great! I particularly love the chalk dust! We do a lot of outdoor obstacle courses at our house:

Those are awesome ideas – all simple and easy to do. Love that leaf maze – so cool!
Thanks, everyone! Glad you liked them! My daycare is closed for the summer (all of the Hooligans are children of teachers so they’re home with their parents until September). I’m just using pictures from activities that we did from Sept to June of this past year. I can’t wait until they’re back and we can get busy doing all the ideas I’ve collected from other blogs this summer.
Jackie, that maze is a-mazing!
I love the leaf labyrinth! We did a maze similar to that in the snow last year. Really fun ideas — thanks for sharing them!
Some wonderful ideas here! Your daycare kids are very lucky!
